NOTE re Eve:
"She says she is a keen observer of humans, can interpret their actions and understand their motives in five languages; is also something of a cosmopolitan. Her experience has taught her to see people in humorous light. The contents of the book were a compilation of these experiences."
NOTE: who published book?
"a friend out of town. It was financed by this same friend." COULD THIS BE THE ELDERLY MAN?
NOTE: "There were about two hundred copies. . . . Thinks the reception of her book should be as broad as that accorded a scientific work."
NOTE and RESEARCH: When Eve came to US she "acquired English and further education at Washington Irving High School."
NOTE: about 4 or 5 years ago Eve lived in Chicago and conducted a tea room, "Gray Godders" [?]
NOTE:1925 June to December she was in Poland.
RESEARCH: SO SHE RETURNED AROUND JANUARY 1926. MAYBE THAT'S WHEN THE INCIDENT WITH THE BOY HAPPENED.
NOTE: St. George Hotel
NOTE: "Four months ago she rented a hall room at the Washington Square house at $35 a month" If Eve's Probation Officer is writing on July 1, 2026, then "four months ago" would be around March.
NOTE: landlady's comments contradict Fitzpatrick !!!!
NOTE: "Six months ago [six months before July 1, 1926 would be JAN 1926. Also maybe check Dec. 1915] the defendant with an elderly man and a 17 year old boy leased the premises 129 McDougal Street with the exception of front basement. The elderly man furnished the place with chairs, tables, etc., and the enterprise became known as 'Eve's Tea Room'. Shortly afterward the mother of the 17 year old boy appeared at the tea room, said the boy was a runaway. It was intimated that he and the elderly man were sweethearts. There was a scene, the boy was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and referred for [CONTINUED DOCUMENT 5] JNK CHECK

"investigation. During the probation officer's visit [EVIDENTLY, THE BOY'S PROBATION OFFICER] to the tea room he saw so much that was suggestive, there was no doubt in his mind regarding the character of the place. The boy was placed on probation and later arrested in Central Park charged with impairing morals of two 12 year old boys and sent to Reformatory.
RESEARCH ARREST RECORDS, PROBATION OFFICER RECORDS. SEE THE NAME OF THE BOY'S PROBATION OFFICER.
NOTE ON ROWDYISM, SEX TALK AT 129:
"The rooms over the tea room were supposed to be rented as furnished rooms, but the lodgers moved out shortly after the deft [Eve] moved in. My information is to the effect that there as so much rowdyism in the defendant's premises and patrons of such objectionable type that there were four attempts to petition for her eviction, but because some of the neighbors and business people feared her as a dangerous character the necessary signatures were not obtained. I learned that she made insulting proposals to some young patrons of a near by studio and that the loud, coarse discussion of sex matters by her patrons scandalized other business people in the neighborhood. I was told that Mr. Edwards, editor of the Quill considered her a menace to the Village Settlement. Mr. Edwards was attending Harvard Commencement and I had no direct conversation."
NOTE ON EVE: "She has been in custody since date of arrest 15 days . . . ."
EVE WAS ARRESTED ON JUNE 17 SO THIS IS EVE'S PROBATION OFFICER'S COMMENT INDICATES THAT HER REPORT WAS WRITTEN ON JULY 1, 1926.
