Members of the Gay Liberation Front march on City Hall in New Orleans to protest police entrapment and harassment, the first such public demonstration in the state of Louisiana. The GLF followed up on this action the next month when it held a “gay-in” picnic in City Park, to test the right of gays and lesbians to assemble and socialize in public.
1971-02-20Gay Liberation in London
In London, as Gay Liberation Front men leaflet outside, GLF women enter the Gateway Club, a popular lesbian bar, to protest the earlier expulsion by the owner of several women who were active in GLF. Demonstrators unplugged the juke box and shouted “gay is good.” Police arrest 13 of the demonstrators.
1971-05-01Gay liberationists demonstrate in Paris
Members of the Front Homosexuel d’Action Revolutionnaire, a gay liberation group, demonstrate publicly for the first time in Paris as a contingent in the annual Workers’ Day march.
1971-07-23Gay Liberation Front protest in Bloomington Indiana
Members of the Gay Liberation Front of Bloomington Indiana picket and distribute flyers outside a popular bar and restaurant, Nick’s English Hut, that was near the Indiana University campus.
