1964-07-22Frank Kameny speech in New York City

Militant activist Franklin Kameny delivers the 100th monthly lecture to the New York Mattachine Society and urges the audience to take a firm stand against the claim that homosexuality is an illness. It is “neither a sickness, a defect, a disturbance, a neurosis, a psychosis nor a malfunction of any sort,” he said. “We cannot ask for our rights from a position of inferiority or from a position as less than whole human beings.”
