Carl Schlegel
Carl Schlegel was born on March 29, 1863, in Germany. Schlegel, who became a Presbyterian minister, has been credited with being one of the earliest homosexual advocates in the United States. Within the Presbyterian Church in New Orleans in the early 1900s, Schlegel distributed publications from the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee, a German homosexual emancipation organization.
