First Public Meeting of Gays and Lesbians in South Africa

The Homosexual Law Reform Fund convenes the first public meeting in South Africa of gays and lesbians. The group was formed, and the meeting in a Johannesburg suburb was called, in response to a legislative proposal to make being gay or lesbian in itself a criminal offense requiring compulsory imprisonment. About 100 people attended this first meeting.
