Gail R. Shibley, 1992
A few years before Schlittler conceived of the Out and Elected project, he had the opportunity to interview Gail Shibley, the first openly gay person to serve in the Oregon State Legislature. She was appointed to fill out a vacated term and was subsequently elected twice to the seat. The interview was published in June 1991, in The Lavender Network, a Eugene, Oregon, publication that is no longer in existence.
