1957-09-04Wolfenden Report Released in Great Britain

The Wolfenden Report is released in Great Britain. Named after Sir John Wolfenden, who chaired the committee appointed by the British Home Secretary, the Report recommended that laws criminalizing consensual sex in private between adults be repealed. The Report received wide publicity in Britain and elsewhere and led to increased efforts to decriminalize homosexual behavior, including in the United States.
